I am Asha Pathare, born into a modest family in the village of Amba Upla, Kannad, Ahmednagar district. During my childhood, I assisted my parents in the fields. Unexpectedly, due to an illness, I had to undergo medical treatments, which led to a loss of mobility. Despite numerous efforts, I found no success in restoring my health. With my uncle’s support, I pursued education until the seventh grade. Later, I secured admission to a school for the disabled in Pune, where I completed my education up to the 12th grade while residing in the hostel. Subsequently, I worked at a hospital for a nominal wage of rupees 2000 per month, and I also completed a harmonium course. Furthering my education, I completed a tailoring course, aspiring to achieve self-sufficiency.
Considering my family’s circumstances, my uncle and father made the decision for me to get married. I entered into marriage on 1/10/2012 with a person facing similar physical challenges. Despite the difficulties posed by our disabilities, two healthy children were born to us. The pandemic disrupted my son’s and daughter’s education, but my husband and I remained resilient. It was during this challenging period that a friend introduced me to HelpLife, an organisation that proved to be a beacon of hope.
I had the privilege to meet Dr. Neelam Bhardwaj through HelpLife. Dr. Bhardwaj not only comprehended my situation but also provided immediate financial aid. She facilitated a crucial surgery, relieving me of my worries. Additionally, HelpLife extended support by providing a six-month ration supply and arranged for a sewing machine through a tailoring centre. This assistance not only empowered me practically but also instilled in me the confidence to navigate life’s challenges.
The journey to my home was arduous, marked by challenging terrain. Upon sharing my predicament with Dr.Neelam Bhardwaj, she offered guidance, and with her support, I approached the village council. HelpLife’s intervention led to the construction of a cement concrete road, significantly easing the difficulties faced during travel. HelpLife became the catalyst for transforming my life, providing not only financial aid but also imbuing me with the determination to overcome adversity.
I found strength and inspiration in the teachings of HelpLife: “If you wish to accomplish something in life, do not yield to your mind. If you aim to progress, do not lose courage.” This profound lesson continues to resonate within me, inspiring me to persevere in the face of challenges.
