Life Before Helplife
Introduction:
My name is Rajrani Gupta , and I live in Bareilly district, Uttar Pradesh. I have completed my education up to a Bachelor’s degree. I have locomotor disability due to polio in my legs, which caused a delay in my education.
Family:
I belong to a middle-class family with five members: my mother, sister-in-law, nephew, niece, and myself. We have a spice mill that serves as our main source of income. After the death of my two brothers and my father, I started helping at my brother’s shop. However, people often made remarks when they saw me, and I faced a lot of difficulties commuting by rickshaw.
Challenges Due to Disability:
Due to my disability, I received late education, and no school would admit me because of my condition. I have had a passion for studying since childhood, so my mother arranged for home tuition. When a new school opened near my home, I finally got admission and managed to complete my education up to a Bachelor’s degree. My relatives and neighbors often taunted my mother, questioning the value of my education. Nevertheless, she always supported me.
In college, I faced ridicule from other students, and sometimes even teachers made jokes about my condition. However, I focused on my studies because I had one goal in mind: to complete my education. After graduating, my family’s financial situation deteriorated, which forced me to stop my studies.
Life After Joining Helplife:
Sewing Work:
I know how to sew, but going to the shop was very difficult for me. I often thought about how nice it would be to work from home. Through Helplife, I received a sewing machine, allowing me to work from home now.
Empowerment Through Helplife:
I requested this sewing machine to work from home and to help myself grow. With this machine, my work has become much easier, enabling me to support my family as well. I have many hopes tied to this machine, and I aspire to advance in sewing. The programs conducted by Helplife, such as Saturday meetings, morning meditation sessions, and computer classes, have greatly benefited me. I learned basic computer skills in the computer classes, which have been very useful. The morning meditation sessions have improved my mental and physical health, and the Saturday meetings have motivated me significantly. Participating in these meetings has given me new energy and enthusiasm.
Encouragement Message:
I want to say that disability does not mean the end of your potential. Never let your inner willpower diminish. Whatever tasks come your way, do them in a timely manner and never give up based on others’ opinions. Helplife has provided me with the opportunity to move forward in life, and I want to thank Helplife for their support.
